This forum has been great as far as churning up old memories is concerned. I've been fondly remembering people and events that haven't crossed my mind in years. I'll toss out a couple to see if it lights a spark for anyone else. Does anyone remember when the entire middle school staged a walkout when they took away our field day? That was glorious. How did we ever organize such a thing? At a designated moment, everyone left class and walked out onto the schoolyard, refusing to return to class untill we got satisfaction!
Who here remembers the giant party and bonfire held in the middle of the pine barrens sometime after graduation? I can remember playing "deathrace 2000" with real cars and pedestrians in a clearing in the middle of a field that night. I destroyed the suspension on my 66 Fury III chasing Bob Falone over a small cliff. Good times, good times.

hey everyone! been lurking for a while, it's so great to be able to see what twists and turns all our lives have taken. sorry I can't make the reunion but will be there in spirit. I have always been proud to have grown up in M'town even though I have only been back a few times. So many memories, fall soccer with Coach Toppin, winter soccer, lacrosse (Coach Mossesson, ughhh!), band w. Mez and loosening up senior year and having some fun, can you say pink champale with a straw, Linda?. I still remember South Valley Elem (Mrs. Merz making you clean your plate!) and sledding at Stokes Hill. Only sad thing is that there are so many classmates and old friends who are MIA. Brendan, if they let you out of Fayettnam some time and you get over here to Charlotte look me up so we can grab a beer! Also Brian Shapiro was a smart, funny and great kid - and a great tenor sax player... strange, I was thinking about him recently too....

I also remember Brian quite fondly. He once built a six foot long, three dimentional model of the periodic chart of the elements for extra credit, or just for the hell of it. It was put on display in Mr Shapiro's (no relation) class. I always thought that kid would be the next Einstein.

Doc Dav Reed,
Now that you mention it...I do recall your dad as football coach, bless him and his memory. You are a fine son who does your father fitting tribute

Sorry to hear about everyone else's losses. Lost my Dad last February, but in his case, it was a blessing. He'd been in chronic pain, unable to walk or stand for 11+ years and at the Lutheran Home at least 19 or 20 months. We were happy to see him go and leave his suffering behind. I was on good terms for many years before the end, and our last visit was a good long one, a precious memory. John, losing a child does seem to be the most insane loss of all. We expect to lose our parents some time, but the loss of a child, especially a young one, I can't find words adequate for such a loss.

For all the other Cooper alum (Dave, Lisa, anyone else), I was there for 5+ years, first as an operator (I think I know which older physician Dave talked about) and then a unit secretary in the Neonatal ICU (1984-89).

On a lighter note, I'm loving this site. I was such a loner back then, I didn't know how lucky I was to have all of you in that community. I look forward to seeing and connecting with you all. One of my memories is from graduation, singing to "Don't Stop" and hearing the class wail like a dog -- AAAhhooooooo! I could tell many had been partying before the ceremony.

Oh and to those who asked about the Jade (my Dad's old watering hole in the 1960s)and subsequent Moorestown Pub, it is no more. Building is all boarded up. For those who may not have heard, they tried to overturn the "Dry Town" status, but were unsuccessful on their last try, so you still need to drive to Ott's or some other out of town location, or BYOB.

Sorry to hear Bingo is out, but I've never had a chance to be a cheerleader. I have the vital capacity (lung capacity) of an average male (combine all that singing with the supposed Welsh barrel ribcage I got from dear old Dad), so I am ready to yell loud and clear, chearing the players on. Goooooo 78!!!

Moorestown had a chance to pass an acohol ref.For some reason it won't pass. It would be nice for a few restaurants to offer a wine list-as you can see by the message board that a few Mrtownian's drink. Just think of the tax money. There's plenty of time for Bingo 30 years from now!

Brian was something else, the periodic chart would light up the the correct the element co depending on which element combination you clicked on.

John Nardeli, were you in Mrs. Clarks's (I believe Tommy's Mom) kindergarten Class? Gosh I've known some of you for more than 43 years...what ever happened to Gwynn, Vicki E,'s like best friend @ Lenola?

Clyde.. when did we meet anyway... I'm thinking 2ish? Still mad at you telling me there was not a Santa Claus!!

I went to Memorial field this morning at about 7:40. I dropped my son off at the high school here in Deptford; he got out of the car at 7:11, I took 130 north; the traffic was pretty light, I made the right onto Church. I got out of the car and took a slow walk around an empty soccer field the jogging track was the same, Yes, Dan, the track stopped jogging long enough to say hi. Even the fence looked the same. The stands were gone. The score board was gone, and the field seemed smaller and the silence melancholy. This morning was a cold November with a light overcast not a bright June 15th 30 years ago.

I went to the high school, Now I'm positive that there's a new addition out front, the lady inside told me it was the guidence wing (I wonered if there were couches in there with softly coloured rooms and a dreamy melody pervading from Boze systems placed unobtrusively) I did feel a thrill I as I walked into the old main entrance and the lady asked if she could help me I told her I didn't know and that this was a stroll down memory lane and then about the reunion then she told me that Mr. Wanamaker was still there but I had to admit that I never met the guy, then she asked a question that nearly floored me; would I like to visit the media center they have quite a few year books there. Now off and on for the past thirty years I've been trying to find out what became of my Kndergarten teacher, sorry every one only those who went to Lenola know Mrs. Lord and even They may not know how much she meant to me. I'm on two other school websights and I've asked people from Lenola, I've gone into archives every thing short of calling a PI. at any rate some one had to remember Jennifer Lord, her daughter, all I can say about her is, You had to know her, but I couldn't find her either not even in my Alumni Directory she's not even listed with her class, If I had her picture. I accepted the ladies suggestion enhtusiastically. The books they get in the school library are donated or if you're lucky unclaimed. The entire senior section of the '75 nutshell had been butchered; almost every picture had been individually cut out with a razor or something, some cuts were too close to the binding for scissors (yes I needed a dictionary). The librarian was a helpful guy younger than me, when he walked me out he said I could try the town library. Their copy was mint I showed this guy her picture. and he said he thought there might be a copy of an alumni directory, when he got it I kept trying to tell him I had a copy and she doesn't exist; but he only pointed, there it was Jennifer Lord Phone number, adress Just a couple of blocks away From the library I was standing in. That is not in my copy. Then he told me their's is a 1994 publication maybe she didn't update after that. I could have walked to her house, but the infomation was 14 years old. This was my last card, of course the phone number was a bust so I was faced with knocking on a strange door and asking who ever answered if they knew who lived there 14 years ago the one thing I was afraid of happened an old lady answered the door Jennifer was only three years older than me so this was the end of it. I had stepped off of the porh so the lady came out said nothing but her eyes were querrious

"Ma'm I'm sorry to bother you," I told her. "I'm tryng to find someone who lived here. You woudn't have any idea would you?" I knew it was a stupid question,

"Who was it?" She asked.

"A girl, Jennifer Lord"

"She moved to Haddonfield. How do you know her?"

"You know where she is?!" I was surprised she knew.

"I'm her mother."

My search was over; my heart started to race. I smiled

"Mrs. Lord!?" she looked at me "John Nardelli" I told her

She smiled; it was her, "Johnny!" I hugged her and she started telling me things that confirmed it, She reealy remembered me. This has been a good day.

Oh, by the way the librarian who walked me out of the school today told me that we could arrange for a tour of the high school for Our Reunion, Interested?

11/19/08 05:38 AM #183

David Reed

John, great story. Sounds like a great adventure. I would be interested in a tour of the school as would be cool to walk the halls of MHS one more time. Do you think they would arrange something like this over a holiday weekend? If so I am definitely in.

11/19/08 07:13 AM #184

Wendy Rumpp (Kemp)

John - So cool that you were able to find Peggy Lord. I wish I had known you were looking for her. My mom is good friends with her.

I'm sorry that I'll miss catching up with all of you at the reunion. I was just back in Moorestown on 11/8 - my mother and stepmother threw an engagement party for my oldest daughter at the Field Club.

I was at the high school back in 2003 when my half-sister graduated. That was kind of weird - as I looked down through the names in the bulletin, I saw some familiar last names. My sister graduated with some of your kids! I brought my yearbook to her graduation party, and the kids had some good laughs.

Thanks Andy, for this site. It's been addictive, lol!

A tour of the highschool would be cool. I'd be curious to see if the giant bra I hung from the auditorium stage rafters is still there.

John Nardelli

Sorry Kevin(Berry) I guess that puts to rest the Kindergarten issue.

Aw, Wendy, I'm provincial, I just assumed(yeah, I know)that any one who didn't go to Lenola.... you know; sorry about that.

Any way, the place has changed; they down-scaled the library/media-center litterally, structurally; they razed the upper level, I guess they didn't need it with all the computers they have now.Oh, and the gym isn't just a gym; it's a wing. So, I will get with the school and get back to you; sorry about the printed babble about Mrs. Lord, She's a dear lady. I had intended to go to the school just to have a look around unnoticed and maybe a short courteous talk from the current prnciple, need I say that my expectations were overwhelmed.

11/19/08 01:19 PM #187

John Nardelli

We can walk through but we have to GIVE THEM A DATE, SOMETHING SPECIFIC! Maybe this wasn't her day, I don't know. The point is, they need something so they can make sure the custodial department will be there to support our visit, she didn't mention the cafeteria; maybe they're union and we have to bring outback take-out to give the janitors something to do while they're cursing us, I'm doing it again. Alright she wants to know during school, after school, saturday, she wouldn't touch the holiday thing, Dave; sorry. Let's check the calender, shall we? What's good.

I would like to add another name to those that are not with us anymore. For all of the calculus students out there, Joe Heiser was one of my favorite teachers, I was sorry to hear he passed away. And Brian and I were close friends, I always think of him whenever I take my kids around water.

I am wishing I was coming to the reunion, based on some of these messages, maybe us track guys that stayed in shape could finally out football some of you lacrosse and football guys!

John... did you know what happened to Ms. Lord's son Craig Lord? What a cool guy... gosh he was tall, seemed like he was 7ft. He would often come into the neighborhood and play football with us.
Did David Foster not graduate with us? I did not see his name on the rooster.
How about Ricky Gunther, Chuck Briggs, Wayne Milligan.... has anyone herd from them?

11/19/08 03:23 PM #190

Wendy Rumpp (Kemp)

Kevin - Craig's still in town, I believe. I think he has a place and business on Church Rd., right near the soccer fields. He's doing construction I think.

Lisa Mulle (Warren)

Christine, I remember when you worked at Cooper. I would often pass you on my way to lunch (my favorite time of day). Your sister worked there too as I recall.

John, Jennifer Lord lived up the street from me in Haddonfield. You will be happy to know that she hasn't changed a bit. She was teaching nursery school where my boys attended before we moved to PA. She is kind and beautiful from the inside out.

Kevin Walters, Yo neighbor, long time-no see! My mom still lives in the same house, and yes, Clayton is right up the street although I haven't seen him for a while. I saw Mrs. Gregorio around a year or two ago, she is doing well. What ever happened to "Boob" (Dave Bubeck)? I saw him many, many years ago when he shared a condo with Meg in Margate. He was working at a casino and having a good ole time.

Bob, I am really sad to here about Joe Heiser. He was a great teacher in Calculus. I really enjoyed the math teachers in general (Kerr, Rogers Heiser). Besides Mrs. Johnson in 4th grade Miss Rogers probably had the greatest impact on my life of any teacher.

Kevin Berry & rest of Lenola School alum I had Mrs. Johnson at my medical school graduation party at the Fire Hall. Was an unbelieveable & frankly pretty wild party. The dress code was mandatory Hawaiian. Will not go into the reasoning for that in this forum. She hung in there the entire evening and enjoyed some of our special beverages. At times I felt a bit frightened as she was exposed to a wide array of characters that evening. I actually said a few words about her at the party about her being an inspiration. I was so sad to hear from my family when she passed. She was a great woman and one heckuva teacher and role model.

John, I am getting in on Thanksgiving afternoon. That day is obviously shot. I could do Friday or Saturday but do you really think someone is going to take an hour or two to show us around MHS on a long holiday weekend? If they do we need to give them a donation for their efforts. Hey, would not go out of your way unless there is vast interest. Just hearing your stories of the changes will be enough. Now what I would really like to see but impossible is the old Lenola School.

Dave remember all the girls crying the last day of school in 4th grade? Ms. Johnson was so cool..
So sorry to hear about your dad... I remember him being real nice. Guess they still have lil league football practice across from Lenola school. Remember Jane Farace's mom coming to school all made up. How sneaking over to 7-11 during recess? of course I was the only one to get caught.

Ron Lewis, Brian Keenly, Vicki Epolite, Tom Clark, Maria Pergross(sp?), Rickey Gunther, Wayne Milligan, Russ Hartman, Peter Romano, Cathy Barrow, Peggy Hartman, Nancy Dell, Chucky Briggs, Leon Amer, Billy Bowers, sHezzz what a elementary class. I heard Robert McMullen is not with us anymore, or Joey Vindicen (sp?) who I think was a grade ahead of us but I remember him setting off M-80’s around the playground.
Pat McMullen and my Bother, and Pat Mernam (sp?) were best of friends. Pat's family had like a lil farm w/ a pet pig...well when it turned Hog, Pat was Sad because it was Bacon Bacon Bacon!!! LOL

Hi Everyone!I must say that this site has been really great. It's fun to hear the stories and memories everyone has. I have to admit, I wasn't going to come to the reunion at first. High school was more awkward teenage angst than party times for me and I wasn't sure if I wanted to relive that! I guess what's great now is that as we all collectively start to reach the half century milestone in age, we've pretty much fully become the people we are. I found that the great thing about turning 40 is you care less about what people think and more about what matters in life- friends and family. This website really showed that as everyone has shared how much losing a loved one has affected their life. My heart goes out to those of you who have lost a parent or parents. John, I am so sorry to hear of your son-that is a devastating blow that I can't even begin to fathom. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion-and please, keep the stories coming! Thanks

Bob McMullin married Lisa Crissy from my little sisters class. Lisa and Jennie were best friends when they were young, so Lisa still visits Mom around the Christmas holidays. Bob would be happy to know that he has beautiful grandchild about five years old. Or is it ten or twelve years old. Damn, you really lose track of those things at our age.

Craig Lord has a construction business. He worked on some renovations at my sister's. He built an early building for MEND (ecumenical group for subsidized housing), where my grandmother lived for her last couple years at Pearl and Zelley (east side).

For Dave, Craig's company, I believe, also renovated Lenola School for MEND. It is now Lenola School Apartments. Anyone can enter the lobby, but would need a resident or someone with their key to let you into the side hallways where the apartments are. My mom happens to live there, so guess who can get you into the rest of the hallways? When my mother moved in, my sister Carol kept pointing out where different places were. She said Mom was first in the office, but I recall bathrooms being there, possibly faculty one(s). We had some problems with the ground floor apartment, so Mom is now on the 3rd floor, I believe in Mrs. Johnson's old classroom (will check with Carol). They've installed an elevator as well.

When I go to see Mom, I'm "going back to school." At 81, I value those visits.

Danny, wow I think we go back a bit too. I guess Robert's kid probably closer to 10 -12. DaGG my youngest is now DRIVING! Shhezzz what's next Dating?? oh no!!

Eric,
The same year Moorestown had the referendum on sales of alcohol, two other towns had the same one. I live in Pitman, which defeated the bill with a larger margin.

I have no objection to the sale of liquor or the drinking of it, just its use in excess. After all, Moorestown is named for "Moore's Tavern." Once upon a time it was the law of the land. However, I prefer to indulge in chocolate, ice cream, pastry ... I was devastated when Mom told me the Peter Pan Bakery had closed!

Thanks also for the update on Jennifer Lord. She was one of the few tall girls I knew back in school. I was 5'9" by 7th grade. It felt awful lonely up there.

As you can see I still have family in and around the region. I moved the furthest away by 2 measly counties. It's amazing to see how many of you have spread across the US and even England/UK!

For those of you traveling back, welcome home!!!
For those of you who hoped to come, but something came up, you are ever in our hearts. And if any of you get to read this and choose to remain silent, you can see that we're thinking of all of you. I know I've looked at each person at least once. Blessings on you all.
